If you’re a Formula 1 fan, you know that the paddock has always been a place of innovation, grit, and sometimes, pure chaos. But how often do you get the chance to own a piece of that history?

We’ve just come across a small collection of original F1 team kit from the late 1970s and early 1980s — items that almost never leave the paddock. These weren’t made for merchandise or collectors; they were made to be worn, in all conditions, by mechanics, engineers, and team members working trackside.
BS Fabrications: The Privateer Spirit
Included in this collection are pieces tied to Brett Lunger’s time with BS Fabrications (1976–78). Founded in 1972 in Luton, BS Fabrications was born from the expertise of former Lotus engineer Bob Sparshott — who had worked with legends like Jim Clark and Graham Hill — and John “Ace” Woodington.
The team ran hybrid machines and private entries under names like Space Racing, embodying the restless experimentation of 1970s Formula 1. Competing against the giants with limited resources, BS Fabrications chased respect more than glory. Drivers such as Brett Lunger and a young Nelson Piquet carried their hopes, with near-misses like a seventh-place finish in 1978, just shy of championship points.
The team’s engineering spirit didn’t end there. BS Fabrications went on to contribute to projects like the Toleman TG280 and Formula 3000, including a championship-winning effort in 1985.

Rothmans March F1: Bold, Iconic, and Built for the Paddock
Also part of this rare find are two Rothmans March F1 jackets from 1982. March Engineering was one of the most versatile constructors of the era, running works entries and supplying cars across the grid. These jackets were built to withstand the chaos of the pits — not for display — and feature the bold liveries and sponsor graphics that made 1980s F1 so visually striking.
Why This Gear is Special

Back then, team kit was built for use, not sale. Most of it never survived, and even less in wearable condition. Owning something like this is more than just owning clothing — it’s owning a piece of motorsport history, where every thread has a story.
Highlights from this collection include:
- Original late 70s BS Fabrications team shirts
- Rothmans March F1 jackets from 1982
- Built for real use, with genuine wear and patina
- Rare, highly collectible, and historically significant
